Dyeing Workshops

Would you like to learn to dye?  Do you have a quilt guild or group of friends interested?  I am available to do 1 or 2 day "dyeing" sessions.  Produce beautiful fabrics to use in your quilts and be able to brag about your own hand-dyed sensations!

I offer three dyeing workshops:

Gradations-Using Procion Fiber-Reactive Dyes, create a nine step gradation.  Introduction to solid color dyeing, techniques to induce patterning and overdying.  Basic principles of color mixing, proper handling of dyes and chemicals necessary to process the fabrics, accurate record keeping and how to set up space in your home to dye fabric safely.   Work with a friend and take home two sets of gradations in fat quarters!   No previous experience playing with dyes is required!

Color Wheel-Using Procion Fiber-Reactive Dyes in red, yellow and blue we will create a 9 step color wheel using 1/2 yard pieces of PFD fabric.   Or cut fabric into fat quarters and create and 18 step color wheel!  There are no rights or wrongs with dyeing fabric.

Straw Dyeing-The most totally wild way to dye fabric---make a scoop out of a drinking straw and sprinkle dye onto wet fabric.  You have more control of where the dye ends up.  These pieces have "movement" and are wonderful used in landscapes or borders or for dramatic effects.

All workshops can be customized-  size of fabric pieces dyed, number of pieces, techniques.

One Day Dye Class

We picked colors, measured, processed and waited for dyes to "set".    It was a beautiful day and we were able to go outside to do some unique "straw" creations.  The group had so much fun, we will be doing it again in 2010!
